General Information
• Building is 70,000 + SF
• Once all moves are complete the TED will house ~
200 people
• TED Building is designed and constructed to be
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) Gold certified.
– DOE Requirement for new construction
– LEED certification provides independent 3rd party
verification that a building project is environmentally
responsible and is a healthy place to work.
– DOE also requires 15% of out buildings meet “High
Performance Sustainable Building” requirements. The
TED building along with the Test Lab and Test Lab
Rehab will provide the bulk of square footage to meet
this requirement
General Information
• TED Sustainable Building Features
– 80% of the building heating and cooling requirements will
come from 174 geothermal wells. The 10% “extremes”
from conventional systems.
– Solar hot water is used to heat domestic hot water with
conventional system backup.
– TED will operate using ~ 40,000 BTU/SF; Lab currently
operates similar buildings using 100,000 BTU/SF
– Toilets will be flushed using “gray” water (reclaimed water)
– Restrooms use low flow water fixtures
– Building has a “cool” roof; high insulation and reflectance.
– Used products with a high recycle content
– Improved indoor air quality by using low-emitting
materials
– Recycled construction debris
