Don’t be Confused
• Currently K-12 education is under siege.
• We hear and call it the standards movement,
but it is really the high stakes test
movement.
• Don’t confuse Standards with High Stakes
tests. They are not connected.
We have Standards
• We all have Standards that we live and
teach by, whether they are state directed or
self imposed. This is good.
• What is bad are the High Stakes Tests
masquerading as Standards.
• What I wish to do is use the Standards to
help create the student-scholar and
eliminate the High Stakes Tests.
The Standards
• State Standards
• National Standards
• Others
Scholarship
• Scholarship is what we promote. It is the
foundation upon which schooling was
created, to my way of thinking.
