My Mistakes…You Don’t Have To Make
Them Too!
• Use Notebooks EVERYDAY
• Grade as you go!
• Have a plan for supplies – I’ve had several and
they’ve all been miserable failures, but I have a
new plan!!
• Assign groups and jobs within groups
• Plan ahead – this way you don’t skip a page like
me and have 140 kids all ask you what is
My Mistakes…You Don’t Have To Make
Them Too!
• Keep an example journal, but TIE IT DOWN
because it will walk away – Our class example is
Bob The Notebook
• Leave LOTS of time when you begin – they have
trouble with the rules and the concept of flapping
pages in, but they get faster!!
• STRESS the importance of the notebook from
day 1 – they’ll bring it for the most part, but they
will put up a fight…be strong!
