MUSCLE, JOINT, AND
BONE INJURIES
Strain = a tear in the muscle.
Sprain = an injury to ligaments around
a joint
Call 911 if :
The pain is severe.
The joint appears deformed.
TREATING MINOR
STRAINS AND SPRAINS
Protect = bandage or splint.
Rest = Limit use of injured body part.
Ice = Ice the injured body part.
Compress = Wrap firmly with a
bandage.
Elevate = Raise injured body part
above the level of the heart if
possible.
FRACTURE (VOCAB)
A break in the bone.
DISLOCATION
(VOCAB)
A separation of a bone from its normal
position in a joint.
UNCONSCIOUSNESS
(VOCAB)
The condition of not being alert or
aware of your surroundings.
Recovery Position
CONCUSSION
(VOCAB)
A jarring injury to the brain that can
cause unconsciousness.
NOSEBLEEDS
Two main causes = Allergies/Dry Air and
injury to the nose.
Squeeze nostrils together and lean forward.
If bleeding persists after 20 minutes seek
emergency help.
POISON
Any substance that causes injury, illness,
or death when it enters the body.
