“Uncle Jed’s Barbershop” is a warm and uplifting
story about the power of a dream. The story
also illustrates the fact that many dreams
require money to get them going. The theme of
determination expresses itself through the story.
The story is historical fiction and the events are
made up, but could actually happen in real life
during an actual time period called the Great
Depression
The Great Depression began in this country and
spread to other countries in Europe. It was a
time when banks collapsed and the people lost
the money they kept there.
Most people had no money or a way to earn
money. People had to find other ways to feed
their families without money. The Great
Depression lasted 10 years form 1929-1939
