Mercury
 A year on Mercury is

long.
 A day on Mercury is 59
Earth-days long.
 Mercury was named
for the swift Roman
messenger god who
wore winged sandals.
Venus
 Venus was named for
the Roman god of love
and beauty .
 Venus means
“beautiful white one.”
 Temperatures can
climb up to 900° F.
Earth
 The Earth is a ball of
rock almost covered by
ocean.
 It is not too hot and no
too cold.
 As far as we know, it is
the only planet with
life.
Mars
 Mars was named for
the Roman god of war.
 It is usually very cold on
Mars.
 Mars is called the red
planet because it is red.
Jupiter
 Jupiter is the fifth
planet from the Sun.
 It is the largest planet
in our solar system.
 Jupiter is a giant ball of
gases with a rocky
center.
Saturn
 Saturn is about 888
million miles away
from the Sun.
 It was the first known
planet.
 It is about 10 times the
size of Earth.
Uranus
 Uranus has some thin
dark ring.
 Uranus is mostly called
the sideways planet.
 Uranus looks blue and
green.
Neptune
 Neptune is covered
with clouds.
 Neptune is so far from
the Sun that it is very
cold.
 Neptune has high
winds and many
storms.
Pluto
 Pluto’s journey around
the Sun takes about
248.4 Earth years.
 A year on Pluto is
about 247 Earth-years
long.
 Any atmosphere
surrounding Pluto
must be frozen.
