Program goals: sense of inclusion and belonging;
adult and group connection
Approximately ten students per group
Students assigned based on input from the
Middle School Student Support Team
Advisor travels with student for four years
Student Support Team
Meets weekly to discuss academic and socialemotional needs of students
Counselors, learning resources coordinator, family
support liaison, athletic trainer, director of diversity
Goal is to provide safety net for all students
Course Selection
The higher the grade level, the more options
Requirements leave room for student choice
No “right” or “standard” set of courses
5 course minimum (includes PE and Art)

Distribution Requirements
Arts: 2 years, 3 years with specialization
English: 4 years
History: 3 years (2 World, 1 U.S.)
Math: 3 years in sequence
Languages: Through Level III, at least two years
at Upper School
Science: 1 year Biology, 1 year Physics or 1 year
Chemistry (A year-long science course is
required in the 11th or 12th grade year.)
More Distribution Requirements
Physical Education: 2 years in grades 9 and 10
Outdoor Education: One week trip or longer
Service Learning: 80 hours submitted and
approved; at least 60 with an out-of-school
organization

Summer School Information
Upper School course offerings are on the handout you
received tonight.
Financial Aid available.
Course registration will begin for Lakeside students on
February 6th. Open registration begins on February 27th.
Some courses may not run due to low enrollment.
Regular updates available through June 1.
All registration materials will be available online in
February.
An informational e-mail from Chris Hartley will be sent
at the end of this month.
Summer School:
Things to consider
Courses that earn Lakeside credit will
become part of the student’s transcript.
Strict attendance policy.
Students should sign up for courses as if
there were no summer school. Schedules
can be adjusted.
LAKESIDE ACADEMIC BRIDGES
A specialized two week Middle to Upper School transition
program** covering:
“Writing Across the Curriculum” and “Algebraic Thinking”
Open to incoming 9th grade Lakeside students only.
Get to know some of your peers, teachers, and how to access some of the
Upper School educational resources even before the school year begins!
Review math and firm up writing skills according to Lakeside expectations in
English, History and Science.
Program Dates: Mid August**
Days: Monday - Friday (5 days per week)
Times: 9 a.m. – 12:40 a.m.
Cost = Free!!! Snacks will be provided.

Don’t worry about it!!!!
PSATs, SAT Subject Tests (SAT IIs) start

Testing at this age has little (if any) ultimate
relevance in the college process
