• Increase the pipeline of students prepared for
Advanced Placement Coursework by increasing
rigor and teacher support in math, science,
English & social studies classes
• Increase the number of students meeting critical
benchmarks on College-Ready assessments at each
grade level
• Increase the number of students who attend and
graduate from College

• Is in 148 schools in 67 districts throughout the state
of Alabama
• Supports nearly 600 Advanced Placement Math,
Science, English, Social Studies, and Computer
Science teachers
• Supports over 800 teachers in grades 6-11 who are
implementing LTF-infused courses
• Serves over 25,000 Advanced Placement Math,
Science, and English Students

Budgetary Changes Regarding Partner
Schools for 2015-16 school year
In the past, A+ College Ready would match funds provided by Partner
Schools up to $5,000. This amount has now increased to $10,000.
Funds can be used for:

• While A+ College Ready recommends a rigorous preparatory pathway for AP success, students should be encouraged
and allowed to enter the pre-AP and AP pathways at any point if they show ability and are willing to step up to the
challenge.
• Students who take Algebra I in the 9th grade can double up on math courses in either their junior or senior year to be eligible for
AP Calculus as a senior.

Foundational and skill-based social studies training for teachers
of grades 6-10 in the following subjects:

The SSC3 training consists of 4 days of hands-on and interactive in which
teachers are provided best practices and skill-based teaching strategies that
focus on the 3 critical aspects of any social studies course:
• Content Acquisition Skills-strategies that focus on reading and
comprehending primary and secondary resources, charts, graphs, tables,
maps and technological resources
• Content Application Skills- strategies that focus on applying the content in
multiple ways for multiple purposes including comparison, differentiation,
evaluation, synthesis, application, inferences, contextualization,
classifying, and change over time
• Content Exposition Skills- strategies that focus on student expository work
including narrative and persuasive writing

Keys to Successful
Program Implementation
1. Make the implementation of the Pre-AP courses infused with
numerous LTF lessons and assessments a priority as a
school/district leader.
2. Use your ASPIRE and PLAN data (as well as other sources) to
identify students for honors/pre-AP courses.
3. Remember that the A+ Program advocates for OPEN
ENROLLMENT and that data should be used to move students
into rigorous courses versus keeping them out. Demography of
Pre-AP courses should mirror the demography of your school.
4. Select teachers to teach LTF-infused courses who ascribe to an
open enrollment philosophy and who are willing to learn and try
new things.
5. Communicate with and educate parents regarding the need for
increased rigor in your school.
