* An automatic reaction that
happens without thinking about it.
* A reflex happens quickly in
less than a second.
When a reflex impulse occurs, the
reaction happens very quickly.
This is because the impulse does
not go all the way to the brain.
It travels from the site where the
stimulus occurs,
To the spinal cord,
And then back to the site of stimulus, so
a reaction can take place.
When a voluntary impulse occurs, you
have conscious control over your
movement.
This involves the brain.
It travels from the site,
To the spinal cord,
To the brain,
Back to the spinal cord,
Then to the muscle you want to move.
You have a nerve along your whole arm.
The “funny bone” is the only place on
the arm where the nerve is not
protected.
