What are the major parts of the spinal cord?
Grey Matter
◦ Cell bodies of neurons
◦ Dendrites
White Matter
Axons
Grooves
◦ Dorsal median sulcus
◦ Ventral fissure
Horns
◦ Dorsal horns – sensory neurons
◦ Ventral horns – motor neurons
White matter is organized into three columns
◦ Anterior, Lateral, and Posterior
Within the white matter there are specialized
regions of axons
◦ Sensory Ascending Tracts conduct nerve impulses
to the brain
◦ Motor Descending Tracts transmit impulses down
the spinal cord
How are they similar?
How are they different?
