World at War
REVIEW
War fought from 1939 to 1945 between the
Allies and the Axis, involving most
countries in the world. The United States
joined the Allies in 1941, helping them to
victory.
What is World War II?
He was U.S. President during most of World
War II.
Who is Franklin D. Roosevelt?
Form of government in which individual
freedoms are denied and the government
has complete power; a form of aggressive
nationalism.
What is Fascism?
A leader with complete control of a
country’s government.
What is a dictator?
Policy that allowed the United States to sell
old arms to other countries for cash only
and they would take them away.
What is cash and carry?
Resource-rich area of China that Japan
invaded in 1931.
What is Manchuria?
The leader of communist U.S.S.R. during
World War II.
Who is Joseph Stalin?
Hitler’s book containing his thoughts and
beliefs about German unification.
What is Mein Kampf?
Dictator of Spain after the Spanish Civil
War.
Who is Franco?
Alliance formed in 1936 between Italy and
Germany.
What is the Rome-Berlin Alliance?
This law was passed by Congress in 1935
to prevent the United States from selling
arms to any country at war.
What is the Neutrality Act?
The unification of Germany.
What is Anschluss?
“Living Space” or “Living Room”
What is lebensraum?
The political party that Adolf Hitler
belonged to.
What is the Nazi Party?
Name given for the alliance formed
between Germany, Italy, and Japan.
What is the Axis Powers?
Part of Czechoslovakia with a large
German-speaking population.
What is the Sudetenland?
Ships in formation at Pearl Harbor.
What is Battleship Row?
Admiral of the Japanese Navy who planned
Pearl Harbor.
Who is Isoroku Yamamoto?
Baltic sea port with strong German roots.
What is Danzig, Poland?
Approximate number of American killed at
Pearl Harbor.

Britain wanted to buy some old destroyers
from the United States because they had
lost about half of theirs to the Germans.
FDR wanted to help but this would clearly
violate the Neutrality Act. How did FDR
get “around” the law?

countries before invading France.
