the Roosevelt Corollary to
the Monroe Doctrine!
• FDR – Good Neighbor
Policy withdrew troops from
Nicaragua and Haiti
• FDR also cancelled the Platt
Amendment which limited
Cuba’s independence
War Begins in Europe

o Poland – August 1939 Hitler
and Stalin agreed to take over
Poland (Nazi-Soviet Pact)
o Soviets also take over
Finland, Estonia, Latvia, &
Lithuania
o Britain and France declare
war on Germany for Hitler’s
actions
o In the first years of the war
Germany is unstoppable
taking over Norway,
Denmark, Netherlands,
Belgium, & Luxembourg.
Fall of France & Battle of Britain
o Even with Britain’s help France
falls to Hitler quickly on June
22, 1940
o Germany looked as if it would
not be stopped at this point
o Hitler next ordered bombing
missions on Britain day after
day this continued through
summer and fall of 1940
o British P.M.-Winston Churchill
fires up British spirit and they
never give up
o Hitler finally moves on

o Summer 1941 - Hitler then gets
greedy and stabs Stalin in the
back
o Hitler knows that the Soviets
are not strong and marches his
troops into the Soviet Union
o Churchill and Stalin do not trust
or like each other very well, but
they must now align to fight
back the German forces
together
o This is the beginning of the end
for Germany and Hitler
