• The Allies take France
• The United States pushes toward Germany from
the west.
• The Soviet Union push East toward Germany.
• Nazi forces on the defensive

• Surround, and destroy the allied forces.
• Hitler hoped this would push the Allies to negotiate

• Dec. 16, 1944 Germany attacks the Allied lines.
• 8 German tank divisions broke though U.S line.
• Pushed Allied forces/ created a “Bulge” in the front line.

• American forces surrounded and
outnumbered in the town of
Bastogne.
• They had no supplies.
• Fought in snow and dense fog.
• Refused to surrender.
• By the end of December, the Allies
had pushed the Germans back
