


World War II was a military conflict that lasted from 1939 to
1945 and involved nearly all the nations of the world.
The Treaty of Versailles was created after World War I to
bring peace back to Europe. It said Germany had to give up
some land and pay for damages caused by World War I.
Germany wasn’t happy so Adolph Hitler convinced them to
give him the power to “tear up” the Treaty of Versailles.
Hitler began taking over other countries. This made Britain
and France mad so they declared war on Germany.
On December 7, 1941 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor
and the United States entered the war.
World War II ended on August 15, 1945
Nearly 62 million people died leading up to and during the
war.
Why did the United States fight in World War II?

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because it was located right in
the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It was "in the way“ of the
Japanese expansion policy.
Why did the United States fight in World War II?


Pearl Harbor was where America's Pacific
Fleet was located. If Japan destroyed
America’s fleet of battleships it would make
it easier for Japan to defeat America in a
war.

During World War I Hitler joined the German Army because they accepted
him. They really needed soldiers and took almost anyone who applied.
Hitler served on the front lines during World War I and earned the Iron Cross
Hitler liked the discipline of military life
After the war he became involved in politics and eventually became the
leader of the NAZI party
He organized the Holocaust which was responsible for the death of about six
million Jewish people.
How did women participate in
World War II



Rosie the Riveter is a fictional character that was
created by the United States government.
The government wanted women to fill jobs because
men had joined the army during WWII.
Once women found out what it was like to have a
job and earn money many didn’t want to go back to
being just housewives.
