Four Causes:
What caused World War II?
1.
The Treaty of Versailles: World War I
led to World War II.
After World War I three countries were
hopping mad. Why?
A. Japan felt ignored by the European
powers.
B. Italy didn’t get the territory that it
wanted.
C. Germany:
1. Lost territory
2. Had to downsize its military
3. Paid war damages
4. Had to accept all responsibility
for WWI.
2. The Great Depression
A. People lost their jobs and savings.
Why?
-The stock market crash in the
U.S. affected other countries
as well.
B. Which countries had people who
were suffering?
-Italy, Japan, USSR.
-Germany (due to depression
and reparations payments).
3. Fierce Nationalism
-Which countries had people
who were fierce nationalists?
-Italy, German, Japan and
the USSR.
4. Appeasement.
A. What dictators were being
aggressive?
-Joseph Stalin (USSR)
-Benito Mussolini (Italy)
-Adolf Hitler (Germany)
B. What is appeasement?
-Giving in to the demands of
an aggressor.
