QUESTION
1. How does an electric current affect the needle on a compass?
2. What is the relationship between batteries and motors?
PART ONE
1.
2.
The electrical current flows through the wire, turning it into an
electromagnet. The magnetic field around the wire interacts with the
needle in the compass, causing it to move rapidly.
Conclusion:

It moves the needle and makes the reading inaccurate(question 1)

The relationship between magnetism and electricity is they both effect the other.
When the wire was cliped to the end of the battery holder an electric current was
produced, creating a magnetic field. You can only see the result of the field when you
hold the “magnet” (the electric current produced by the wires connected to the
battery holder) above the compass. As a result you can see how both sets of electrons
deflect the other by the needle going crazy.
THE DEMO
Energy Transformations
The energy begins as stored electrical energy and ends as radiant
(electromagnetic) energy
PART TWO
1.
2.
Chemical energy stored in batteries transforms into electrical energy. In
the motor there are magnets and copper coils, the electric current causes
the coil of the wire to become and electro magnet, spinning the shaft,
transforming electrical energy-----> motion energy.
Conclusion:

The relationship between the two is that the generators and motors produce energy.

Motors convert electrical energy (from a battery or voltage source) into mechanical
energy (used to cause rotation).

The relationships are important because without the generator the motor couldn’t
run and there would be no reason to have a motor.
