• DECA Chapter Activities – Includes State and
National Competition (Optional). Also includes projects
for Oregon Humane Society and the Doernbecker
Hospital. This is open for discussion for other
opportunities to give back locally to our community.

Career Day Event up for all Business
students.
This event is an education workshop
presented by the Portland Timbers and
Portland Trail Blazer management team.
This event is a unique opportunity for
marketing students to get insight into the
day-to-day marketing in sports
organizations.
Speakers from different departments
in the these organizations will talk about
their role with the team.

What does DECA do?
• DECA enhances the preparation for
college and careers by providing cocurricular programs that integrate into
classroom instruction.
DECA is Co-Curricular
• DECA is a co-curricular organization NOT
an extra-curricular activity - this means that
DECA activities are directly related to
classroom instruction.
• DECA has more than 215,000 high school
members participating through 3,500
chapters in all 50 states Guam, Puerto
Rico, District of Columbia and 8 countries.

History and Growth of DECA
• DECA began during the period between 1937
and 1942 and was primarily referred to as D.E.
Clubs
• These initial Clubs were formed primarily
because students who were enrolled in D.E.
classes were working after school and did
not have time to participate in extra-curricular
activities such as athletics - so they formed
their own organization.

• DECA was officially founded in 1946 at the National
level.

Organization of National DECA
• Oregon was one of the first # charter states
that founded DECA in ?.
• There are over 3,500 high school DECA
chapters across the nation and the world.
• DECA has two primary divisions: high
school and collegiate.
• The collegiate division has more than
15,000 members in 275 chapters in 36
states and Canada.

- A list of statements outlining the
moral and ethical standards that all
DECA members should be willing to
adhere to.
The DECA Code of Ethics
As a DECA Member:
I will be sincere and honest.
I will accept each task with confidence in my ability to perform
my own work at a high standard.
I will strive with the guidance of my family, teachers, advisors,
business persons, and my own initiative, to do my best in
making my community, state, and nation a better place to live.
I will strive to develop a cooperative attitude and will exercise tact

– Brycen Woodley is the Oregon State
DECA Advisor.
– He is a nationally recognized trainer
and speaker for CTSO. Brycen began
his career with DECA as a student
member and later served as DECA
National President.
