INCENTIVE PROGRAM CASE STUDY

Client: GE Money
Program: Pre-Season Kick-Off Program
Background: For the 2007 holiday season, GE Money and Stein Mart launched a Stein Mart credit program
that offers its cardholders a points-based rewards program plus the benefits of the Stein Mart Preferred
Customer Program To hit and exceed pre-set store goals, in terms of new credit applications, Stein Mart
introduced an Incentive Program to motivate store employees to generate high volume of applications.
Mechanics:
• Store managers assigned a goal.
• Each store that met their goal received a Kick-Off package.
• Packages included instant-win, scratch-off game cards, along with prizes.
• Every store employee received a card and prize, regardless of individual job responsibilities.
• Store managers handed out cards (all employees were winners), and employees would
scratch off to see which prize they received.
• Each store had a pyramid of prizes with top level, mid-level and lower-level logoed
merchandize prizes.
Results:
GE Money received overwhelming store management and employee response, meeting 156% of their goal. DJA
is currently working on an annual promotion plan for 2008 with Stein Mart and GE Money.
ONLINE/OFFLINE/MOBILE/INTEGRATED CASE STUDY
Client: Marriott International
Program: Plan and Go Anywhere Game
Background:
Between 2005 and 2006, Marriott launched a number of new site features on
Marriott.com. The new features were the product of extensive customer research,
and Marriott knew that customers found them to be very useful once they tried them.
However, customer awareness and use was low since they aren’t immediately
visible on the homepage, and they had not yet promoted them. We aimed to
increase customer interaction with the new site features.
Mechanics:
Marriott utilized a “Programmed Learning” Instant Win Game/Sweepstakes to
introduce people to use the new search technology by offering consumers the
chance to win exciting prizes.
Results:
We met or beat all of our goals. One of our main objectives was to increase
customer awareness of the new site features. During the 1.5 months that this
promotion was live we received 196,944 registrations, 246% higher than our goal of
80,000 registrations. Total game plays was 537,354, 179% above our goal. We
received 873,000 sweepstakes entries. Each registered participant played the game
approximately 3 times, on average, meeting our goal. Another major objective was
to increase customer trial of the new features; visitors to the promotion were 70-95%
more likely to interact with these new features in the same-session revenue. The
promotion also resulted in 35 same session air or car bookings. Overall, it was
proven that an online instant-win game and sweepstakes is an effective way to
generate awareness and trial of new Marriott.com features.
ONLINE/OFFLINE/MOBILE/INTEGRATED CASE STUDY
Client: eBay and GE Money Bank
Objectives: Promote the launch of the new eBay MasterCard.
Focus on the acquisition of new cardholders and promote the
benefits of card membership.
Tactic: Various sweepstakes elements occurring during the 2007
eBay Live event in Boston, MA.
Mechanics: DJA handled the creation of the booth graphics and
various pieces of collateral material for distribution at the event.
Two consumer involvement sweepstakes were executed at the
eBay MasterCard booth to drive traffic and provide participants
with information on the eBay MasterCard. At the final keynote
speaker address, one Grand Prize winner was announced.
During the event, eBay and GE also promoted the Joys of
Summer sweepstakes (occurring immediately after launch of the
card), which encouraged consumers to use their new eBay
MasterCard for the chance to win exciting prizes.
Prizes: Various electronic prizes and one Grand Prize of a
$5,000 eBay shopping spree.
Results: Enthusiastic consumer participation during all events.

ONLINE/OFFLINE/MOBILE/INTEGRATED CASE STUDY
Client: The Vidal Partnership and Sprint
Program: A Moment with Juanes
Background:
The Vidal Partnership’s client Sprint, teamed up with
international Latin pop star Juanes, to offer consumers more
than just minutes. The mobile phone carrier offered one
lucky consumer “A Moment with Juanes”. The sweepstakes
strategy connected Latinos to music, a popular interest
among the demographic. The tactic awarded two tickets to
attend a Juanes concert and the opportunity to meet him in
person, which garnered many entries.
Mechanics:
To enter, consumers visited www.batanga.com/sprint and
uploaded a video expressing why they should win a moment
with Juanes. Consumers were also able to enter by sending
a video message via a participating wireless device.
Followed by a screening process, entries were posted on the
promotion website for online consumer voting and
comments.
ONLINE/OFFLINE/MOBILE/INTEGRATED CASE STUDY
Client: Ghirardelli Squares Chocolate
Program: Chocolate Pleasures Sweetstakes
Background:
Ghirardelli approached DJA with the following objectives:
-
drive consumer awareness and increase volume,
-
generate higher levels of repeat purchase,
- - drive consumer traffic to the website,
- - acquire new customers for database.
Mechanics:
DJA recommended an in-pack instant-win game with online second chance random drawing to award
unclaimed prizes. Prizes consisted of a trip to San Francisco, including a tour of the factory, spa
packages, gift cards and Ghirardelli Squares Chocolates. Consumers were instructed via an on-pack
burst to look inside specially marked bags for the official game piece. Game pieces were paper
squares of chocolate and over-wrapped the same as the actual Squares. To see if they were an
instant-winner, consumers would unwrap their game piece and unfold it to reveal a game message.
Both instant winners and non-winners were encouraged to visit the sweepstakes website to register and
enter the second chance random drawing.
Results: The game resulted in a customer marketing opt-in database of over 14,000 names, nearly
double in sales and is scheduled to run again.
HISPANIC PROMOTION CASE STUDY
Client: Goya
Program: Create a Goya Masterpiece Contest
Background: The 2007 “Create a Goya Masterpiece Contest” leveraged Goya’s partnership with
Disney World to target the Hispanic market. The main objective was to embrace Goya’s new
brand positioning -- “Goya is the Latin-Spirited Muse for Kitchen Artists of Today”. Additionally,
Goya wanted to increase consumer excitement and encourage purchase during the holiday
season. Entrants were asked to create a work of art featuring iconic Disney images with select
Goya products. Two promotional sites were created, one in English and another in Spanish. The
Grand Prize included a fun-filled 4-day, 3-night trip for 6 to the Walt Disney World resort in Lake
Buena Vista, Fl.
Mechanics:
• Consumers were directed to visit www.goya.com to click on the promotion link
to enter the contest.
• Entrants were asked to create works of art featuring iconic Disney images
with select Goya products.
• All entrants had to register and then upload a photo of their artistic creation to
be viewed in an online photo gallery.
• All entries were judged by a professional panel based on the following criteria:
originality 25%, creativity 25%, visual appeal 25%, relevance to Goya and
Disney theme 25%.
Results:
Consumers did an amazing job depicting iconic Disney images using a variety of their favorite
Goya products. This promotion truly brought moms and their families together during the holiday
season to showcase their artistic talents in support of Disney and Goya. The promotion
encouraged consumer/brand interaction and took another step towards developing an
interpersonal relationship between consumers and the Goya and Disney brands.
EVENT PROMOTIONS CASE STUDY
********DIAMOND AWARD WINNER********
Client: Time Warner Cable
Program: TWC/Adelphia Integration Event
Background:
To win the business, DJA was challenged to develop a campaign that would introduce TWC
to its newly acquired markets, as a new, different, customer-centric, and innovative company.
Mechanics:
We won the business after showcasing our history and this plan: a 37 day multi-tiered mobile
marketing event, including direct mail invitations with instant-win prizes and sweepstakes
details, 3 fully-wrapped vehicles, mall tours and many prizes. We offered this strategy as an
option for the following reasons; direct connection with audience, high brand awareness,
interactivity with brand and products, enhancement of brand via non-traditional advertising,
increase in brand consideration, competitive advantage, and lasting impact. The custom-built
mall kiosk included two plasma’s, four flat screens, eight laptops, six chairs, and sales
materials. Each displayed a different TWC product. An online instant-win decoder game
captured information and awarded many prizes. One lucky winner each day was awarded a
prize instantly just for speaking with an ambassador.
Results:
50% of all visitors to the booths asked specific questions regarding the conversion. Another
6% upgraded on the spot and an additional 5% were new customers. Overall, most markets
reported at least a 65% change in company perception by customer. The mall emerged as a
critical marketing platform benefiting TWC because of the unique ability to reach a broad
demographic of consumers who are in the buying mindset and in close proximity to the pointof-purchase.
