Let’s Get Cheeky
•Biology Lab
10/5/10
Objectives
• To prepare stained slides of cheek cells
and onion cells
• To observe and identify microscopic
structures of the cells
• To examine prepared slides of bacteria
• To identify differences between
prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
Procedure
• Prokaryotic prepared slides
• Eukaryotic wet mounts
Results
• Draw pictures of the cells under low
power and high power.
• Label magnification
• Label structures of the cell
Conclusions
• Why is methylene blue necessary for the
cheek cells?
• The light microscope used in lab is not
powerful enough to view all organelles in the
cells. What parts of the cheek cell were
visible? The onion cell?
• List the differences. Why are there different
parts in the cheek cell and onion cell?
• Using your text as a reference, list the
function of the organelles you see in the
cheek and onion cells.
Conclusions continued
• Compare and contrast prokaryotic and
eukaryotic cells.
