Shelter
The Lumbee Indians shelters were more like
ours today. The homes were made out of wood
and logs. They had chimneys and a fire place.
Just like us.
Food
Lumbee’s (Croatans) are harvest and
farming people. They harvested corn, squash,
beans and tobacco. They also hunted deer,
wild turkeys and lots of other different types
of animals. The Lumbee tribe lived off of many
different vegetables and animals I am sure
but these are the main foods that they
cooked.
Clothing
People don’t know exactly what the lumbee
Indian tribe originally wore because they switched to
European clothing so early in their history. As far as
we know lumbee Indians wore a beaded headband
with a feather or two in it. Lumbee women all wore
knee length skirts and lumbee men all wore
breeclothes. The lumbees definitely wore moccasins
on there feet. Both lumbee women and men wore
tattoos on there body’s. Today lumbee men and
women were regular clothes like us.
Jobs
The women and the girls jobs in the
lumbee tribe were to do the mostly sewing,
cooking and farming. The men and boys
were mostly hunting and fishing.
Crafts and Storytelling
The Lumbee Indians were know for their
crafts like basket weaving, woodcarving and
jewelry making.
There are lots of traditional Lumbee
legends and fairytales. Story telling is very
important to the Lumbee culture.
