Who we are
Sony Marketing’s mission is to create new markets and to
provide comprehensive marketing and sales support for
Sony-branded products in the Japanese domestic
market.
from-hanna.com was launched in order to serve the
English speaking community living in Japan.
We aim to provide information and services that would
otherwise be prohibitively expensive to seek off-line (in
terms of time, money, skill, location) for the English
speaking residents of Japan.
By partnering Sony group resources with non-Sony
companies, we strive to provide one-stop solutions for
our users.

Our origins
The name “Sony” was created by combining two words. One is
'sonus' in Latin, which is the root of such words as 'sound' and
'sonic'. The other is 'sonny' meaning little son.

These words were initially chosen to convey that " Sony" was a
small, young group who had the energy and passion to work
toward creating something special.

In February 2001, Sony Marketing (Japan) Inc. established fromhanna as an English-language lifestyle support website to
combine tailored information and services specifically for the
English speaking residents of Japan
Our name
English or England is represented by 「英」 (Ei) in Japanese.
The character 「英」 can also be read phonetically in Japanese as
“Hana”.
In order to convey our goal, as well as to convey the familiarity of
a common English/Japanese name "from-hanna.com" was
chosen.
