Do now
Please get out your Incredible Edible Cell sheet and
complete it. You will not begin your activity until I
have checked off that it is complete.
Third & Fifth Block: You should have received a
copy when you came in the room. Using your notes,
copy down the “function” under each organelle. The
“food item” we will be using is on the board.
Announcements
Quiz tomorrow at the end of Club Cell.
Mrs. Thompson has agreed to take any students that can
not attend Club Cell for behavior reasons.
If you want to bring food, please sign up on the cabinet.
Today we will:
Finish Incredible Edible Cell (30 minutes)
Prepare for Club Cell activity
Assign Roles
Make Organelle Posters
If we don’t finish in time, we will have to do it tomorrow before being
club cell.
Nucleus
FUNCTION
Controls
the cell
and contains its
genetic material
(DNA)
Nucleus
ANALOGY
The
nucleus is like
the CLUB
OWNER because
they control what
happens in the club.
The students that will represent the Nucleus are:
Cell Membrane
FUNCTION
a
semipermeable
barrier of the
cell that lets
materials in or
out
Cell Membrane
ANALOGY
The
cell
membrane is like
a BOUNCER
because it only
lets certain things
in or out
The students that will represent the Cell
Membranes are:
Mitochondria
FUNCTION
To
process
nutrients and
oxygen into
energy
Mitochondria
ANALOGY
The
mitochondria
are like a DJ
because they play
music to give the
club energy
The Mitochondria are:
Cytoplasm
FUNCTION
The
fluid that
fills the cell
Cytoplasm
ANALOGY
The
cytoplasm is
like THE
CROWD
that fills up the
club.
The students representing the cytoplasm are:
Vacuoles
FUNCTION
To
store
materials for the
cell
Ex:
nutrients,
water, waste
Vacuole
ANALOGY
The
vacuoles are like closets, desks, and
tables in the room. For our club, the
vacuoles are going to be in charge of the
beverage table because it holds the food.
Also, if someone needs to leave Club
Cell, they must see the nucleus first
and then wait with the vacuoles.
Vacuoles are:
Nuclear Membrane
The Nuclear Membrane is the outside
layer of the nucleus that provides it
support and protection. It is similar the
cell membrane, but inside the cell
surround the nucleus.
Nuclear Membrane
ANALOGY: like the celebrity’s bodyguard. The
nuclear membrane supports and protects the nucleus
at all times.
Welcome to CLUB CELL!!!
What type of club is it?
Roles
Each of you has been assigned a cell organelle.
Do not complain. They will not be switched. If you
complain, I will find another place for you that is
NOT in my room having fun tomorrow.
This will be graded based on your participation and
positive attitudes.
Group Work
You will meet with your group to create a poster for
your organelle. You need to include:
Name of organelle
Function
Picture
Six Phrases that would describe how you would
interact with each of the other organelles in the club.
Time to practice
All organelle groups will get together and plan their
role within the cell.
You will have 5 minutes until show time.
Make sure everyone is on the same page.
You are the same organelle and should be doing the
same thing!!!!!
