Warm-Up
 Please get out your notebook and complete the table
and questions from the Incredible, Edible Cell
Activity.
 While you are working, please sign onto your iPad
and into Nearpod using the following code:
Nucleus
 FUNCTION
Controls
the cell
and contains its
genetic material
(DNA)
Nucleus
 ANALOGY
The
nucleus is like
the CLUB
OWNER because
they control what
happens in the club.
Cell Membrane
 FUNCTION
a
semipermeable
barrier of the
cell that lets
materials in or
out
Cell Membrane
 ANALOGY
The
cell
membrane is like
a BOUNCER
because it only
lets certain things
in or out
Mitochondria
 FUNCTION
To
process
nutrients and
oxygen into
energy
Mitochondria
 ANALOGY
The
mitochondria
are like a DJ
because they play
music to give the
club energy
Cytoplasm
 FUNCTION
The
fluid that
fills the cell
Cytoplasm
 ANALOGY
The
cytoplasm is
like THE
CROWD
that fills up the
club.
Vacuoles
 FUNCTION
To
store
materials for the
cell
Ex:
nutrients,
water, waste
Vacuole
 ANALOGY
 The
vacuoles are like closets, desks, and
tables in the room. For our club, the
vacuoles are going to be in charge of the
beverage table because it holds the food.
 Also, if someone needs to leave Club
Cell, they must see the nucleus first
and then wait with the vacuoles.
Nuclear Membrane
 The Nuclear Membrane is the outside
layer of the nucleus that provides it
support and protection. It is similar the
cell membrane, but inside the cell
surround the nucleus.
Nuclear Membrane
 ANALOGY: like the celebrity’s bodyguard. The
nuclear membrane supports and protects the nucleus
at all times.
Lysosomes
 FUNCTION
To
break down old
parts in the cell
and “clean up”
Lysosomes
 ANALOGY
The
lysosomes are the custodians of
the cell. They ensure that the room is
orderly, that trash is removed to the
cafeteria, and that the floor and
counters are cleaned up for the next
class. They also organize and
distribute remaining food items.
Welcome to CLUB CELL!!!
What type of club is it?
Roles
 Each of you has been assigned a cell organelle.
 Do not complain. They will not be switched. If you
complain, I will find another place for you that is
NOT in my room having fun tomorrow.
 This will be graded based on your participation and
positive attitudes.
Group Work
 You will meet with your group to create a poster for
your organelle. You need to include:
 Name of organelle
 Function
 Picture
 Six Phrases that would describe how you would
interact with each of the other organelles in the club.
