This is Mrs. Ameila
McIntyre’s homeroom 5th
grade
Mrs. L. Francis created this
Leader in Me tree in the 5th
grade hallway.
Habit one of the 7 habits of happy
kids is to Be Proactive. This means
you’re in charge. Being in charge
means you are a leader when
people are looking and when they
are not. Being proactive also means
that you take initiative. This means
that you own up to what you do.
The final way to be proactive is by
always helping others.
In the photo, One girl has dropped
some food and another girl stopped
and helped her pick the food up.
Begin With the End in Mind is
the 2nd habit in the Leader in
Me project. Habit 2 means you
plan ahead. This means you set
goals and try your hardest to
achieve them. This makes you a
better leader because you are
striving to get better.
In this photo, a girl is planning
ahead by knowing what she
wants to be when she grows up.
The 3rd habit is Put First Things First
in the Leader in Me Project. This
means work then play. This means
put your big rocks first then do your
little rocks. The big rocks are the
important things. Little rocks are
the non-important things.
In these photos, they are putting
first things first before they play.
Examples:
Big Rock: Reading
Little Rock: Video Games
Habit 4,Think Win-Win means do unto
others as you would yourself. This also
means share your win with others who
tried. Think of a way that everybody can
win. This also means to help each other.
You can follow this habit by helping each
other or by helping someone with a
problem. You think about other people
not just yourself. Be a good sport instead
of a sore loser. You try to think of things
where others can be happy not just you.
If you don’t follow this habit you will get
these results win-lose, lose-lose, or losewin.
In this photo, he is thinking win -win by
helping her up off the floor.
Habit 5 means to listen before you speak.
Have respect for the speaker. Don't ask a
question while the speaker is speaking. If
you have a question, raise your hand and
wait to be called on. What they may say is
probably important so it’s best to listen. You
are a better leader if you listen first. You
may also be a better friend because you are
a good listener. You must listen to others
and don’t ignore them even if you’re mad at
the other person. Try to understand their
feelings and views even if they are different
from yours. You have to have courage to do
habit 5 or you will interrupt.
In this photo, the students are listening to
each other then speaking.
The 6th habit is Synergize. This means
together is better even if your partner
has different ideas. That means work
together to make things better. 3 heads
are better than 1 head. In the Leader in
Me: 1 + 1 = 3 great ideas. Because if 2
people have great ideas then you, then
combine your ideas and you have 3
great ideas. To synergize you have to
work together and get along. If you
synergize you can get things done
faster. You can also come up with
better solutions. Work smarter not
harder. You can synergize by seeing the
strengths in others and learning from
them. When you are synergizing you are
humble.
In this photo, the students are
synergizing by all participating in the
activity.
In the leader in me project the last
habit to becoming a good leader is
HABIT 7, SHARPEN THE SAW. The 4
parts to sharpen the saw is soul,
heart, body, and mind. Sharpen the
Saw means to make time for yourself.
This means that you take time to do
whatever you want. You preserve
great assets. Balance your time wisely.
You could call this time “Me Time”.
Eat right, healthy foods are the best.
You do this anywhere anytime. You try
meaningful ways to help people.
In this photo, kids are playing in our
schools gym.
Examples: Relaxing, Sleeping, Playing
with others, Exercising, Spending time
with family, Sports, Art, Reading,
Technology, and Exploring.
Non-Examples: Working, Cleaning,
Planning, and School
In Conclusion
We are very good leaders and we can follow these
steps to become better leaders. The seven habits are very
good because if you do the first 3 habits you can do the
rest of them. If you complete these steps you can find
your voice and maybe make a change in this world. If
everyone becomes leaders, the world would be great.
Thank you for your time.
