– Located in the northwest quadrant of the park
– Islands are one fifth of the National Park
– Name of islands are called Royal Palm,
Flamingo, and Gumbo Limbo Trail
– Covers 1,400,533 acres on the southwest.
• Tree Island
– Some of the trees are mangroves
– Clusters of trees form
• Over 4,000 years ago many settlers lived
in the Everglades.

– 1800 lived in the area

The Everglades takes up 5,000 miles that is
why it is one of the largest swamp areas in
the world.
