How will climate
change affect us?
Learning objectives
• All of you will learn how to
identify climate change
impacts
• Most of you will learn how
to explain the solutions to
climate change.
• Some of you will learn how
to make links between
geographical location and
climate change.
Climate change the game.
Can you survive climate change when a rip in the space
time continuum means every roll of the dice is a decade
in time so expect fast changes in climate and possible
solutions!
1. Cut the scenario cards out
and make a pile of them face
down.
2. Read out the game
guidance.
3. Each select a character to
be.
4.Create your game’s
random card.
5.Create a totem to
represent you on the board.
6.Play the game.
Jake
London, UK
Synoptic chart and
weather specialist
Worst possible outcome
would be the flooding
of the UK. If this
happens, he moves
back 3 spaces.
Ore
Lesotho, Southern
Africa
Survival skills and
bushcraft specialist.
Worst possible outcome
would be the loss of
habitat for animals- if
this happens, move
back three spaces.
Ana
New Orleans, USA
Cooperation specialist,
works well with others.
Worst possible
outcome- ice age, as
she is a climate change
sceptic. If it happens,
add 3 spaces back onto
whatever the card says.
Siobhan
Sydney, Australia
Excellent with numbers
and patterns. A
mathematical specialist.
Worst possible
outcome- flooding of
coastal cities, move
back three spaces if this
happens.
Game rules
1.Select a character card from the pile and
read it carefully.
2.On the spare card you have, suggest one
way that climate change could be limited. This
should then be put into the pile of scenario
cards.
Anyone who picks up one of the climate
change solution cards written by you moves
directly to the next multiple of three.
3.Put the scenario cards to the side of the
board and then roll to see who will go first.
Each time someone lands on a climate change
scenario, they need to pick up a card, read it
to the group and then replace it at the bottom
of the pile.
4.The first person to ‘survive’ until the nice ice
age wins the game and the prizes!
There is more carbon
dioxide in the
atmosphere today than
at any point in the last
800,000 years. All
players move back 2
spaces.
There are natural
patterns hidden in the
patterns of climate
change, the
mathematicians can
predict them to a
degree, they move
forward 1 space.
Rainforest habitats are
destroyed by unreliable
rainfall and many
foodstuffs are
unavailable. Survival
experts are fine, but
everyone else moves
back 1 space.

to adopt the green roof
strategy of

inadequate sunlight.

farming, saving land

spaces.
Since 1870, global sea

American scientists are
suggesting putting a

approximately 6 billion
tons of carbon dioxide
every year. 40% of that
comes from power

Characters in North
America move back 2
spaces.
The extremes of
weather affect
everyone but weather
specialists can read an
forecast so they know
what to expect. They
move forward 2,
everyone else moves
back 1.
Climate change has
been linked to more
extreme weather,
therefore more
hurricanes and
cyclones. Americans
and Aussies are
affected, move back 3
spaces.
Everyone has started
to recycle in North
America, Europe, Asia
and Oceania. These
people can move
forward 2 spaces.
The Uk has spent lots
of money on flood
defences but the
amount of extreme
weather still increase,
Uk residents move
back a space.
The lack of rainfall in
Lesotho means that
they cannot keep up
their deal with South
Africa so are running
out of money to look

Residents move back
three spaces.

pollution due to

corners of the globe.
All characters move
two back.
With it’s power, the US
government has

change and take
action, even if it is not

protocol. Cooperative
specialists move
forward 2, all others
move 1 forward.
People are having to be

The game evaluation.
1. Did you enjoy the game?
Why?
2. What were the biggest
impacts of climate change in
the game?
3. Which solutions do you think
were the best? Why?Pick
three!
4. Which was the best character
to be, why?
5. How would you improve the
game if you were to play it
again?
