3rd EIONET workshop on Climate Change
Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation
EEA, Copenhagen, 30 June – 1 July 2009
Previous step: Coastal and ECCE projects (2004-5)
 ECCE project : Preliminary Assessment Report of the
Impacts in Spain due to Effects of Climate Change
 Aim: to review the state of the art on climate change
impacts in Spain
 Steering Committee, General Coordinator, Main authors for
each sector and system, Contributing authors and Reviewers
 Total participation: more than 400 experts
A comprehensive top-down approach with a wide
participatory process from the science and technical
community
A basis to framework national adaptation initiatives and to
launch sectoral and geographical bottom-up approaches
 Coastal project: Scientific and technical toolbox for
establishing the relevant policies and strategies for action in
oecc coastal areas facing the CC

The Spanish National Climate Change
Adaptation Plan (2006)
GENERAL FRAMEWORK FOR ALL ACTIVITIES RELATED TO
THE ASSESSMENT OF I+V+A TO CLIMATE CHANGE
Integration of adaptation to climate change into the
planning strategy and management of the different
socioeconomic sectors and ecological systems in
Spain (mainstreaming)
To establish a continuous and accumulative process of knowledge
generation and strengthening of capacities
 To assist all those administrations and organizations interested –
private and public – in evaluating the impacts of climate change in
their area of interest, facilitating data, knowledge, tools and methods
 To promote participation processes with key stakeholders focus
on the definition of the better options for adapting to climate change
