WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?
• Change of weather patterns
• Average weather
=> more or fewer extreme weather events
for example: hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis...
CAUSES
HUMAN
NATURE
Burning of fossil fuels
Volcanic activity
Agriculture => industry

PROBLEMS
•
Seasons are shifting
•
Temperatures ↑
=> Sea levels

SOLUTIONS
In December 2009 scientists set a target to stop the climate
change:
- Until 2050 the average temperature shouldn’t rise more than
2°C
- Companies have to pay for the amount of CO2 they produce
- All of us need to reduce the consumption of meat
- What everyone can do is:
- Reduce heating
- TV not on standby
- Watch less TV
IMPACTS
North America:
-
Less snow (western mountains)
-
Heat waves
Latin America:
- Tropical forests are more and more replaced by savanna
- Species extinction increases
- Changes in water availability
Africa:
-
Agricultural production is compromised
IMPACTS
Europe:
-
Inland flash floods
-
Costal flooding
-
Less winter tourism
-
Less productive crop (Southern Europe)
Asia:
- Risk of flooding in coastal areas
- Death rate rises in some regions
Others:
- Cultures become extinct
- Sea gets more acidic  loss of biodiversity
FUTURE TRENDS
Very likely to occure:
-
Extremely hot weather periods
-
Rainfall increases in high latitude  floods
-
Rainfall decreases in subtropical land regions  draughts
Likely to occure:
- Tropical cyclone intensity increases
High confidence:
- Decreasing water resources in semi-arid areas
