Policies: The Next Steps
“A new phase of the European Climate Change
Programme in 2005: The Commission will review
progress
and
explore
new
actions
to
systematically exploit cost effective emission
reduction options in synergy with the Lisbon strategy.
Attention will be paid in particular to energy efficiency, renewable
energy, the transport sector (including aviation and maritime
transport), and carbon capture and storage.”

ECCP WG III (CCS): objective

The general objective of the Working Group is
to explore geological carbon capture and
storage as a mitigation option by:



reviewing the potential, economics and risks of CCS;
identifying regulatory needs and barriers and
exploring the elements of an enabling regulatory
framework for the development of environmentally
sound CCS;
identifying other barriers that could impede the
development of environmentally sound policies to
advance CCS, and policies to enable the
development of environmentally sound CCS.
