Panos South Asia and Climate Change

November 1999, Tough Terrain (Media report on mountain
issues). Two reports on climate change in the Himalayas,
viz, i) Feeling the Heat (global warming);
ii) Into Thin Air (glacier melting).

May 2004, Environment for All. Some of the reports touched
upon the issues of climate change and its impact (like
coastal erosion).

October 2004, Disputes Over the Ganga. Some of the
reports tried to look at the Ganges water basin management
issues in Bangladesh, India and Nepal from climate change
perspectives (like floods).
4.
June 2006, On the Brink, desperate energy pursuits in
South Asia. Reports looked at energy pursuit (fossil fuels)
and climate change issues in South Asian countries.
Media, ICT and Climate Change?
Online Media Campaign on Climate Change
(project conceptualized and proposed)
The project’s goal is to facilitate online media campaignon
climate change in South Asia. Specific project objectives
are:
• To facilitate access to information/knowledge on climate change (CC)
and role of media for advocating prevention/mitigation/adaptation of
CC;
• To build the capacity of media practitioners in South Asia to practice
online media campaigning on climate change; and
• To facilitate the practice of online media campaigning on climate
change.
The planned activities of the project are:
• Organizing a consultative interface between the various
CC related actors (I/NGOs. Donors, governments,
multilaterals etc) and the role of media in climate
change;
• Organizing a training to build their capacity for South
Asian media practitioners on application of ICTs for
online campaigning on climate change; and
• Creating an online platform for online media campaign
on climate change.
