• The Nordic Council of Ministers has 10 sectoral councils
and the council of the Ministers for Nordic cooperation.
• Nordic Council of Ministers for the Environment
• Run the Nordic governments' environmental cooperation.
• Aims to protect and improve the quality of the
environment and quality of life in the Nordic countries,
and influence regional and international co-operation.

The present cross cutting Strategy on Sustainable Development
covers the years 2009 – 2012.

climate change and environment considerations.

•Environment expert group to facilitate the COP15 Conference.

Nefco has in total financed 24 renovations of wastewater
treatment plants
in the Baltic Sea region
in the Barents region
Presently NEFCO is financing the modernization of ten
small wastewater treatment plants in St. Petersburg.
Projects also in Kaliningrad and Murmansk region

The general/first part of the programme covers three main
areas with some subthemes
The second part of the Programme contains he sector
specific programmes which all embrace the main theme.

The Presidency will be inaugurated by a conference on
sustainable development to be held in Turku 31.1. – 2.2.2011
“Solutions local, together”
Opening key note speech by the Prime Minister of Finland.
The main focus is on local and regional authorities and actors.
We hope St. Petersburg and the Leningrad oblast will send their
representatives to the conference.
