Why are they called ‘Health Related Fitnes
Components’?
They can affect the dimensions of health i.e.
mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical
wellbeing
The ability of the heart, lungs and blood
vessels to take up and deliver oxygen to
working muscle for long periods of time.
The force that muscles or a group of
muscles can exert in one maximal exertion or
contraction.
The ability of a muscle or a group of muscles
to contract repeatedly over a long period of
time
The flexibility of a joint to move through its
full range of motion

Why are these skill related fitness components,
and not health related fitness components?
They cannot directly influence the health of
someone.
The ability to maintain a position in space.
E.g. balance beam
The time it takes to process and initiate
action.
E.g. 100m start (gun going off)
The ability to change direction suddenly
when moving. E.g. basketball players
The ability to move quickly over a given
distance
e.g. sprinting races
The ability to generate maximum force
quickly. E.g. power lifting or jumping
