Do this now:
• In your notes section, write a rhyme that explains
the difference between the two terms analyze
and evaluate (when referring to a source).
Example:
Evaluate means judge, look for opinions and facts,
Analyze to find the main points and bring ‘em back.
Updated Policies
• We’re taking a break from:
• music
• CPS everyday
• seat rotation
• 4 emergency restroom breaks are allowed for the
remainder of the school year (unless Dr.’s note)
• I will make at least 5 phone calls a week (or
emails).
• Late/make-up assignments must be received
within a week of their due dates.
Updated Policies
• Monday Night Homework: We will have
assigned homework from our textbook only
on Monday nights.
• However, Supplemental Homework will be
assigned to any class who A). receives overall
low test or CPS scores or B). exhibits
disruptive/disrespectful behavior.

on three strikes, which can be received for:
– Blurting out, talking across the room, side conversation
– Sleeping/head on desk
– Arguing, checking, having an attitude with anyone
– Being on the floor for an inappropriate reason
– Dropping or throwing anything (paper balls, books,
wrappers, etc.)
– Eating and obvious gum chewing
– Refusing to correct a uniform violation
– Anything deemed inappropriate/disruptive

Whole Class Reading
Now, turn to pages 115 – 119 as we read
“Interview with Alice Walker,” “Interview with
Nikki Giovanno,” “Thinkin’ on Marryin’,” and “A
Baby’s Quilt to Sew Up the Generations.”
As we do so, jot down what we find as we Analyze
and Evaluate these sources.
Individual Practice
Now, complete “Reading Check” on page 120 and
answer the following prompt completely:
Explain what characteristics set “A Baby’s Quilt to
Sew Up the Generations” apart from the other
three sources. How can you identify it as a
secondary source?
Finally, complete “Test Practice” on page 120 and
121.
