WHAT IS SMALLPOX
• Smallpox is an infectious disease unique to humans,
caused by either of two virus variants, Variola major
and Variola minor.
HOW IS IT SPREAD
• Bodily fluids
• Skin to skin contact
• Soiled garments
WHOM IT AFFECTED
• Largest outbreak was in Europe
• Smallpox is no longer a disease in the
United States
• Last case in the United States was in
1949
• Last case in the world was in 1977
