were adopted into marching
songs or just songs to sing for
fun
• through music, composers,
expressed a distinct debt to
Spanish identity at this time
El Himno de Riego
• This was the national anthem of
the Second Spanish Republic(La
Segunda República Española)
-This anthem was named in
honor of Colonel Rafael del
Riego, a Spanish General
Jarama Valley
• This was a song inspired by a key
battle of Spanish Civil War
-This battle took the lives of 150
members of the British Battalion
of the International Brigades in
February 1937
-Has been sung by many antifascists for generations
The Ebony Band
• This band is an example
of a collective group of
musicians from Holland
that performed songs
that were written
during the Spanish Civil
war
• Also, poetry and some
traditional songs sung
by people involved in the
war are included
