
3 layers of the heart wall
The Pericardium forms the sac
(“Pericardial Sac”)that surrounds the
heart. It is filled with fluid to reduce
friction from other tissues/organs
during heart pumping.

Name the 4 chambers of the heart
Which heart chamber contracts with the most
force? Why?
thur. March 10
4 chambers of heart = L/R atrium, L/R Ventricles
Left Ventricle contracts hardest!
Left has to pump blood to entire
body! (See diagram)
March 11 – March 21….No Warm-up
Questions
(family leave)
Tues. March 22
• Where do the coronary
arteries that nourish the
myocardium arise from?
(Hint: it carries oxygenated
blood to rest of body)
Tues. March 22-answers
•
The coronary arteries branch off the 1st part of
the aorta!(as soon as blood leaves left
ventricle)
In this view, hidden by
pulmonary trunk.

How do the atria of heart contract…together,
alternate?
How do ventricles contract…together or alternate?
Answer…Atria contract together (send blood into
ventricles); THEN the ventricles will contract
(pump blood to lungs/or body)
Thurs. March 24
Blood pressure lab
What is the average BP? 120/80
Why is BP important? Can have serious
health effects long term…kidney damage,
blurred vision (damage to capillaries in eyes).
Most importantly…stresses the arterial walls
due to constant high pressure…causes cracks
in walls of arteries. Cracks can become areas
for fatty deposits(fatty plaques)…plaque build up
leads to Heart attack.
