Our hearts are the true source of our behavior –
which means… if our behavior is going to
change – our hearts must change first.

Three Truth’s of the Heart
1st Truth: Our hearts are inherently evil -positioned against God.
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
(Jeremiah 17:9)
“Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”? (Proverbs
20:9)

Three Truth’s of the Heart
2nd Truth: Our hearts must be made ‘new’ in order for real,
transformational change to take place.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your
heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and
move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. (Ezekiel 36:26)

True behavioral transformation is spiritual NOT
physiological and not social.

Three Truth’s of the Heart
3rd Truth: Our good and evil deeds flow from what is in our hearts.
For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside
and make a man ‘unclean.’” (Mark 7:21-23)
‘the good man brings good from what is stored in his heart, and the evil man from the evil that is
stored in his heart’. (Luke 6:45)

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and
rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store
up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do
not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For
where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2
