“Off with their heads!” shouted the
Queen of Hearts and Year 5 just
knew she meant the heads of the
flowers in our
classroom.
Luckily we have been learning about
the life cycle of flowering plants so
we decided to put
the poor flowers to
good use...
First we dissected the flowers
using scissors.
Then we began to sort the
various parts of the flower.
When we were happy with our
dissection we began to stick the
flower parts onto our sheets.
Then we used our knowledge of the
scientific words for the parts of the
flower to label our dissections.
Finally we used a magnifying glass to
check if we could see the stomata in
the leaves and the phloem in
the stem.
We’re not sure what the Queen of
Hearts would have thought of our
work, but we hope she wouldn’t
have shouted “off with their heads!”
