The Jesus Creed
“Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the
LORD your God with all your heart,
all your soul, and all your mind.’ This
is the first and greatest
commandment. A second is equally
important: ‘Love your neighbor as
yourself.’” (Matthew 22:37–39, NLT)
The Higher Call of the Kingdom
““But I warn you—unless your
righteousness is better than the
righteousness of the teachers of
religious law and the Pharisees, you
will never enter the Kingdom of
Heaven!” (Matthew 5:20, NLT)
For Jesus, it all boils down to a
MATTER OF THE HEART.
Our life, our sin, our faith, our good
deeds, our resources – everything
is a matter of the heart
life outside the box

A Life that Lasts
VALUE WHAT MATTERS
MOST
Matthew 6:19–21, (NLT)
““Don’t store up treasures here on
earth, where moths eat them and
rust destroys them, and where
thieves break in and steal. Store
your treasures in heaven, where
moths and rust cannot destroy, and
thieves do not break in and steal.”
VALUE Most Dearly and
GUARD Most Closely what
Matters Most ETERNALLY
What do you TREASURE
most in this life?
Matthew 6:19,20 (NLT)
“…store up for yourselves treasure…”
Key Question
Do you value what God values?
““For God loved the world so
much that he gave his one and
only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him will not perish
but have eternal life.” (John
3:16, NLT)
In the economy of the Kingdom,
nothing matters more to God than
people.
A Life that Lasts
PUT WHAT MATTERS MOST
WHERE IT MATTERS MOST
Matthew 6:19–21, (NLT)
““Don’t store up treasures here on
earth, where moths eat them and
rust destroys them, and where
thieves break in and steal. Store
your treasures in heaven, where
moths and rust cannot destroy, and
thieves do not break in and steal.”
Two Sides – One Coin
Deciding TO invest in people is the
first step.
Deciding HOW to invest in people is
the second.
Two Ways to Invest
…here on earth, where moths eat
them and rust destroys them, and
where thieves break in and steal…
Two Ways to Invest
… in heaven, where moths and rust
cannot destroy, and thieves do not
break in and steal.
The Wisdom of Saving
“The wise store up choice food and
oil, but fools gulp theirs down.”
(Proverbs 21:20, TNIV)
Key: Our Attitude and Trust
“Teach those who are rich in this
world not to be proud and not to
trust in their money, which is so
unreliable. Their trust should be in
God, who richly gives us all we need
for our enjoyment.” (1 Timothy 6:17,
NLT)
Kingdom Investment Strategies
“Tell them to use their money to do
good. They should be rich in good
works and generous to those in need,
always being ready to share with
others. By doing this they will be
storing up their treasure as a good
foundation for the future so that they
may experience true life.” (1 Timothy
6:18–19, NLT)
There is no greater use of our life’s
treasure than to further God’s
created purposes for humanity.
What evidence is there that what
matters most to you is being used
in the way that matters most to
God?

GUARD YOUR
AMBITIONS
Matthew 6:22–23, (NLT)
““Your eye is a lamp that provides
light for your body. When your eye
is good, your whole body is filled
with light. But when your eye is bad,
your whole body is filled with
darkness. And if the light you think
you have is actually darkness, how
deep that darkness is!”
The Eye Is the Gateway
to the Heart
“The lamp that guides the wicked—
haughty eyes and an arrogant heart
—is sin.” (Proverbs 21:4, HCSB)
Treacherous Ambition
“The godliness of good people rescues
them; the ambition of treacherous
people traps them.” (Proverbs 11:6,
NLT)
Destructive Power of
Selfish Ambition
“For wherever there is jealousy and
selfish ambition, there you will find
disorder and evil of every kind.”
(James 3:16, NLT)
Are your ambitions kingdom
oriented or selfishly motivated?

PICK YOUR MASTER
Matthew 6:23, (NLT)
““No one can serve two masters. For
you will hate one and love the
other; you will be devoted to one
and despise the other. You cannot
serve both God and money.”
Our Ambitions Choose Our Master
Dedicate Your Treasure
to His Purposes
Father, I give you what means more to
me than anything else in the world. If it
no longer has a place in my life, I will
sacrifice it for the kingdom. If you
desire to use it for your purposes, show
me how to use it for the honor of your
name. Purify my longings and
ambitions. Cause my heart to desire
what you envision for my life.
