What is Music Therapy?
• Using music to
reach a certain
goal/goals with a
single patient or in
a group setting
• In general,
treatment includes
creating, singing,
moving to, and/or
listening to music
Guitar’s Role in Music Therapy
• It allows the therapist to sing while
playing
• It is mobile (as opposed to piano)
• It is versatile (use with any
population)
Guitar Requirements
Students studying music therapy are
required to take several classes
studying the guitar and incorporating
it into therapy.
In addition to classes, a program that
can help is Learn to Play Guitar
Essentials.
