Comparing and Ordering
Decimals, Fractions, and
Percents
SOL 7.1
All numbers must be put into the same
form (fraction, decimal, percent, etc.) to
order or compare them.
It is easiest to compare decimals, so that
is the best form to use.
To change fractions to
decimals
• Divide the numerator (top number) by
the denominator (bottom number).
• Example: 1/4 = 1 ÷ 4 = 0.25
To change percents to
decimals
• Move the decimal two places to the left
• Drop the percent sign
• Ex: 15% = .15
Example
• List the following from least to greatest:
2/3
1/5
34%
32%
Change to decimals:
2/3 = 0.66
34% = .34
1/5 = .20
32% = .32
Put in order:
1/5
32%
34%
