Someone / Something
In French quelqu’un is used to say
someone and quelque chose is used to
say something.


Je vais acheter quelque chose. = I’m going to
buy something.
Quelqu’un can be used as the subject of a
sentence.



Quelqu’un a fait une expérience dans le
laboratoire.
Use the il form of verb conjugations
Ne…Personne / Ne…rien
Ne … personne and ne … rien are negative
expressions we have learned

Ne personne = no one
Ne rien = nothing


In the passé composé ne comes before the
helping verb

Rien comes after the helping verb
Personne comes after the past participle
EXAMPLES





Je n’ai rien vu = I didn’t see anything
Je n’ai vu personne. = I didn’t see anyone
Ne…Personne / Ne…rien


No one and nothing can also be used as a
subject by placing Personne or Rien in the
subject position and ne before the verb
EXAMPLES

Personne n’est venu.


Rien n’est arrivé


Nobody came.
Nothing happened
Nobody saw.

Personne ne a vu.
Ne … Que


Ne … que (qu’) means only. Place Ne before
the verb and que before what you are
limiting.
EXAMPLES

Il n’a gagné que deux compétitions.


Je n’aime que les bonbons.


He only won two competitions
I only like candy
They only took one test.

Elles n’ont passé qu’un examen.
