You are Green Leader of the Rebel Alliance fleet that’s objective
is to attack the Death Star with Jedi Luke Skywalker. Unfortunately your
B-wing starship was hit on the uttermost part of your wing. You try to
remember back to your training on the length of your wing since, your
R2-D2 unit needs to travel to get to the damage spot. Trying to recall
this information you only remember that the diagonal distance from the
top of your wing to the damage spot is 9 meters long and the total
height of your B-wing is 8 meters. During the attack on the Death Star,
you find a safe area for only ten seconds. Your R2-D2 unit travels at one
meter per second and is endanger during is travel on the wing until the
robot can safely secure himself to the wing for repairs.

You are a fire fighter for the City of Erie. There is a small kitchen
fire at Jodie’s house which is on the top floor. Unfortunately, your fire
truck broke down, so you and your peers carried five different ladders
to the fire. Only one will work for this recuse mission, since you need to
have a ladder that is right underneath the window to get all 18 kittens
and Jodie. Your Chief of the fire department told you the height to her
window is 40 feet and distance away from the building your ladder
must be to be safe is 30 feet.

You and your friend not realizing that you stole from Ignazio “The Wolf”
Lupo a big time mafia boss in New York are on the run. You come up with a plan to
get to the Hudson River to buy a boat to get down to Florida. You think the best
plan would be traveling along the Erie Canal, when your friend thinks it’s faster if
you traveled down into Pennsylvania and then back to where you can buy the boat.
As you are measuring the distances to find the faster route The Wolf breaks into
your hiding spot and you are on the run. Luckily, you have two out of the three
measurements. The length of the Erie Canal route is 260 miles long and the trip
down into Pennsylvania is 100 miles.
Which route is faster now that The Wolf is on your trail? Finish the story off.
You got dragged along to see a band that you have never heard of with your
one crazy friend. Once you get to the venue you walk around to kill some time
before the first band plays. You notice a few odd things like a large red “X” on the
floor and a red line going to the wall that has a measurement of 6 yards. Then you
follow that line up the wall to see the measurement of the height of the wall to be
4.5 yards. Right then you hear the first band to start to play their set. Next thing
you know you have the microphone singing to your favorite songs and you are on
top of the balcony. You think to yourself how long is the cord of the microphone
from the red “X” to me to continue on singing to your favorite songs. If I want to
make it to that red “X” what would be the total length of the jump that I would
need to make to get to there.
