Dr. T. V. Jayaraman
About CMP world
Dr. T. V. Jayaraman (Dr-Jay) is a representative for MIPOX’s CMP pads in
North America providing marketing and technical support to increase
business in the Semiconductor sector. He made an announcement of
CMP’s developmental work on “ACP pads” at [CMP Users Group Meeting],
held in California, USA, on June 1st, 2005.
We had an opportunity to interview Dr. Jay at his home town in North
Kingstown, Rhode Island, USA, and we solicited his opinion on CMP and
Semiconductor market.
Dr. T. V. Jayaraman (Dr-Jay) is an accomplished technology and business
professional with a proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans
for product development, product launch, business development and
marketing. Dr. Jay has extensive knowledge of semiconductor chemicals.
He has a unique combination of education and experience in the
management of technology and business projects – Doctorate degree in
Polymer Chemistry; MBA in International Marketing; and over 20 years of
management experience in the specialty chemicals sector.

The wide range of experience in Semiconductor Industry is spread over
Product Development, Applications, Technical Support, Strategic Planning,
Business Development and Marketing of Photoresists and related
products. Dr-Jay has extensive knowledge of the semiconductor industry,
technology, applications and customer base.
He is an experienced international business professional, helping foreign
companies enter the US market and US companies expand their business
overseas, particularly India and Japan. Through his consulting firm, JayCo
Consulting Inc., he advises companies in areas of international business
and technical marketing.

How and why you got into
Semiconductor world? When I completed my doctorate, I was fascinated by the field of
photochemistry and how it is used in the imaging technology for making semiconductor chips. This pulled
me into the field of PHOTORESISTS and thereafter I never looked back. I worked in the area of
Photoresists and associated products since 1979. I have worked on polymer synthesis, Photoresists
development, application and marketing. While doing this, I expanded my knowledge to the
semiconductor processing in general.
What is your latest opinion on
CMP and Semiconductor market?
Semiconductor market always has been cyclical, going through expansion and contraction all the time. It
is always a fast growth market with high technology content. It is unique in that technology becomes
obsolete very rapidly. Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) was introduced to the semiconductor
processing in the mid 80’s and has been adopted as an enabling process for semiconductor manufacture.
The demand and technology have been growing and continue to grow. The number of layers in the chip
needing planarization in increasing. Additionally, newer materials are being introduced every year posing
new challenges for the CMP technology.
What makes you most exciting
doing your business? The most exciting part of my
business is the opportunity to interact with different people to find
solutions to challenging problems: be it a technical, marketing or a
personal one. What energizes me is the opportunity to learn about and
get involved in newer technology and products.
