Pollux
A chilling tale By: B. Nickoli Kue
Pollux’s Stats
Pollux is 1.86 M. M stands for solar mass. 1m is equal
to the size of the sun, 1030 , or Quintillion grams. Pollux is
about 1.7 times bigger than the Sun.
Pollux is 4,865° Kelvin. The Sun is 5778° Kelvin.
Pollux is a orange star, the Sun is a yella’ giant.
Pollux is 33.7 ± 0.3 light years from the Sun, that’s 10.34
± 0.09 parsecs ("parallax of one arcsecond", symbol pc)
A Parsec is a unit of length, equal to just under 31 million
million kilometers (about 19 million million miles), or about
3.26 light-years.

The Story of Pollux
The name Pollux refers specifically to Castor and Pollux, the sons of Leda. The star also is known
as Al-Ras al-Tau'am al-Mu'akhar,(‫)الرأس التؤام المؤخر‬, in Arabic. Literally, 'The Head of the
Second Twin.' Historically, the Chinese recognized Pollux as Yang, which in ancient
philosophy was one of the two fundamental principles upon which all things depend.
Castor and Pollux together correspond to the Nakshatra Punarvasu in Hindu astronomy.
In Greek and Roman mythology, Castor and Pollux (in Greek, Kástōr and Polydeúkēs - Κάστωρ
καὶ Πολυδεύκης) were the twin sons of Lēda and Zeus/Tyndareus (Pollux's father was Zeus,
Castor's was Tyndareus), the brothers of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra and the halfbrothers of Timandra, Phoebe, Heracles and Philonoe. They are known collectively in
Greek as the Dioskouroi or Dioscuri (Διόσκουροι), "sons of Zeus", and in Latin as the
Gemini ("twins") or Castores.
Castor means "beaver" in both Greek and Latin, and polydeukes means
"much sweet wine". They are sometimes also termed the Tyndaridae
(Τυνδαρίδαι) in reference to their alternative fatherhood by
TyndareusIn the myth the twins shared the same mother
but had different fathers which meant that Pollux was
immortal and Castor was mortal. When Castor died,
Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality
with his twin to keep them together and they were
transformed into the Gemini constellation. The pair were
regarded as the patrons of sailors, to whom they appeared
as St. Elmo's fire.
Long Lived King Pollux…
Pollux has 1.7 times more mass than the Sun, which leads scientists to belive
that it is older than the Sun, and will die sooner. Pollux is belived to born
from a Nebula, just as the Sun was.
