Our neigbours are Albania, FYRoM, Bulgaria, Turkey

The Greek flag contains nine parallel,
horizontal stripes.

In a blue square on the top there is a
white cross.

The nine stripes symbolize the nine
letters of the word “ελευθερία”
(elefthería=freedom).

Beside this, the stripes are nine as the
syllables in the phrase “Freedom or
Death” in Greek.

The cross symbolizes the religion of
Greece, Christianity.


Athens is the capital and largest
city of Greece.
Athens is one of the world΄s oldest
cities with its history spanning
around 3.400 years.
The heritage of the classical era
(5th through 4th centuries BC) is still
evident in the city, represented by
ancient monuments and works of
art, the most famous of all being
the Parthenon (picture in the first
row), considered a key landmark
of early Western civilization

The Greek language is an independent
branch of the Indo-european group of
languages.

It has been spoken and written
without interruption for more than
2.800 years. Homer wrote his epic
poetry in Greek as early as 800 BC.

It features the Greek alphabet, which
was the base for the Latin and other
alphabets.
