Announcements
• Reminder that you have a Post-Test Thursday
• You should be done with presenting Brief #1
and working on Brief #2
• REMEMBER, a brief is only complete after you

Life of a Star
Our Sun
Are All Stars the Same Size?
Are Stars the Same Color?
Red Stars are the
coolest stars
Blue Stars are the
hottest stars
Abdullah’s Breach
Why Do Stars Shine?
• Temperature inside of the core of the Sun =
27,000,000°F
• Most of the universe is made
from hydrogen
and helium
When You Increase Temperature
Atoms begin to move faster, so fast that
they crash into each other!
Short Movie
Inside the Sun, Temperatures are so
High…
• Nuclear Fusion occurs
Neutron

Nuclear Fusion
Our Sun is Currently Burning Hydrogen
into Helium in its core
• That means it is in the main sequence and will
live most of it’s 10 billion years in this phase
Life of a star like our sun
Eventually Hydrogen in the sun
will run out…
• When that happens, Helium will fuse into Carbon
When Helium Fusion is occurring in
the sun’s core the sun will be a giant
Planetary Nebula Turns into a White
Dwarf (the remaining core of the sun)
All the gas that escapes a
planetary nebula will find
it’s way into a Stellar
Nebula and it will all
repeat itself
…Stars died so that you could live.
