Are You At
Risk???
Also referred to as Lifestyle Diseases
Chronic diseases are the leading causes of
death and disability in the United States.
Chronic diseases account for 70% of all deaths
in the U.S., which is 1.7 million each year.
Cardiovascular Disease
Any disease of the heart or blood vessels
Cardiovascular disease (CVD), primarily
heart disease and stroke, causes more
deaths in Americans of both genders and
all racial and ethnic groups than any other
disease.
Number One killer in the US.
Cancer
Cancer is a disease characterized by a population
of cells that grow and divide without respect to
normal limits, invade and destroy adjacent tissues.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in
America. Every year, cancer is diagnosed in more
than a million people.
The number of new cancer cases can be reduced
substantially, and many cancer deaths can be
prevented.
Diabetes
Diabetes means your blood glucose (often called blood
sugar) is too high. Your blood always has some glucose
in it because your body needs glucose for energy to
keep you going. But too much glucose in the blood isn’t
good for your health.
Diabetes can lead to serious problems with your eyes,
kidneys, nerves, and gums and teeth. But the most
serious problem caused by diabetes is heart disease.
When you have diabetes, you are more than twice as
likely as people without diabetes to have heart disease
or a stroke
Obesity
Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy
reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and other
mammals, is increased to a point where it is associated
with certain health conditions or increased mortality.
The combination of an excessive nutrient intake (eating
too much) and a sedentary lifestyle (no physical
activity) has been identified as the main cause for the
rapid acceleration of obesity.
Life Expectancy
Life expectancy is a statistical measure of the average
length of survival
1900 was 47 years
