My community
Service…..
JOSH WILLIAMSON
Service-learning
is a method of
teaching, learning
and reflecting that
combines academic
classroom
curriculum with
meaningful service,
frequently youth
service, throughout
the community.
SERVICE LEARNING TO ME…..
My definition of service learning begins with, the attitude to
better the community without putting self before my
community.
Through service learning I have learned that everyone needs a
helping hand, no matter what the situation is.
Service Learning to me is one great way we can give back to
our community that has given back so much to us.
I want to help others understand the importance of service
learning, and by setting the right example the next generation
will follow our footsteps.
MY SERVICE LEARNING EXPERIENCE……
Collected Cans
Goodwill
Relay For Life
FALL SEMESTER
Last fall, I collected cans for… and I
worked at Goodwill. At Goodwill I helped
the people unload all of the truckloads and
helped sort through all of the bins in the
back. I worked there for about 9 hours one
Saturday. It was actually pretty fun
working with everyone.
SPRING SEMESTER “RELAY FOR LIFE”
For this spring semester I was involved
with Relay for Life. In Relay for Life I
helped in setting up the tent, watching the
bean bag toss while people threw the bean
bags, walked the track, brought people to
our tent, donated money to other booths as
well as ours, and I also organized the
F.Y.E kickball team.

ABOUT RELAY FOR LIFE…….
This was the second annual event for
Relay for life.
According to last year as to this year, this
year was a major success and excelled in
both the participation category with
having more people and teams this year
than last, and also by funding more money
this year than last.
Our tent won first place

THOUGHTS ON RELAY FOR LIFE…..
To me Relay for Life was special to me
because of the fight against cancer.
Cancer has affected my life a few times.
My father is a cancer survivor, and I myself
was affected by cancer. I had a cancerous cist
on my kidney.
Through Relay for Life I have seen a
miraculous event. I feel honored and
privilege to be apart of something that is
fighting a cause that has affected my life.
CLEAN UP
REFLECTIONS……
Over this past school year I experienced life in a whole
different meaning.
I have seen that even in little things, we can help provide
for the less fortunate. Collecting can tabs and cans
helped one less fortunate in paying for her medical bill.
My time in service learning taught me appreciation,
humility, giving, and having a servants heart.
Whether it was unloading a truck at Goodwill or putting
my everything to help fight cancer so one will not
experience the disastrous effects of cancer, helping and
serving is a joy in my heart.
WILL WE CONTINUE……………….
Will birds chirp on a sunny day? Will gas prices continue
to rise? Will there always be needy people?
A YES! to all of these questions and so therefore a
definite yes to continuing in service learning.
I believe it is better to give than to receive and we should
always give back to others as well as our community.
