First You Will See…
Navigation Part I

We will primarily be
working with the Shading
tab. In this part of
Blender we can add color
and textures to objects.
Navigation Part II
Lets explore the “Material Buttons”. Click
the icon of Red Sphere. Here we can adjust
the colors, textures, and overall appearance
of any objects.
Material Buttons I
Left Click where
the red rectangle
is located. Pick
any color and
watch the Rocket
change color.
This is the
shading type of
the rocket.
Choose any option
from the drop
down menu.
Let’s Render to See the Change
Let’s Render the rocket
ship in 3D. To “render” the
frame is like having the
computer draw the 3D
image for you. Render
Current Frame from the
drop down menu or press
F12.
Material Buttons II
Left Click where
the red rectangle
is located. Pick a
different color.
Change the
sliders. Spec is
how much light
the object
reflects. Each
shader type has
different options
though so feel
free to try them
all!.
Let’s Render to See the Change
Let’s Render the rocket
ship in 3D again. See the
differences after changing
these options?
Also notice on the material
buttons tab there is a
preview of the “material”
you have on the selected
object to the left.
Right Click to Select an Object
The rocket is made up of
three pieces or “objects” in
the 3D workspace. Right Click
to select an object. Give it a
try.
Notice how the material for
that object appears? Under
the material buttons tab the
setting for the active object
show only.
Particle Effect and Halo Material
These are the
settings for
the halo
materials.
Left click any
option such as
STAR or
LINES and
render…notice
a different?
Right Click the flames. Notice how halo is
selected? Left Click it to unselect/select it.
Move in 3D Work Area
Move your mouse over the
3D work space. Hold in the
middle wheel and move
your mouse while holding in
the middle wheel.
If your on a laptop with no
mouse wheel, hold in either
“ALT” key. With ALT held
in left click hold the left
button down. With these
two buttons held move the
mouse.
HOLD ALT + LEFT MOUSE
Other Controls
Hold Left Mouse then drag mouse over 3D space
to move object
Hold Right Mouse and Drag to move and select
and object.
Press “Z” key to toggle wire frame.
Press “TAB” to enter edit mode. Press it again to
go back to object mode. (we’ll cover edit mode
next lesson)
